Mercury Direct, Venus + Mars in Aries

Saturday, May 30, Mercury ends its retrograde period and returns to normal Direct Motion. The significations of Mercury return to normal over the coming week as the planet "picks up speed". Some hangover from the retrograde period persists so continued caution in communications is advised for this week.
Mercury will enter Taurus on Friday, June 5. Until then, it is still in Aries, with Mars, an energy pattern that promotes arguement, over-heated thinking, and hasty decisions. Mercury will do better in Taurus, from June 5 -30.
Venus joins Mars in Aries today, Saturday May 30. Venus is 'chasing' Mars in the Heavens, and will pass the red planet on June 21. The combination of Mars and Venus leads to Passions, especially intense in the fire sign Aries. Planet of Impulsiveness + planet of Love and Romance is exciting, but unreliable. Mars has the upper hand; the significations of Venus will suffer over the coming weeks, until Venus leaves Aries on June 29.
In the chart of the USA, the Mars-Venus combination will be in the 5th house, which is already activated since this is the Mars Major Period for the USA. Therefore 5th house themes are especially strong for the month of June: Entertainment, Sports, Stock Exchange, Decisions, Emotions of the People.

New Moon, Mercury joins Mars in Aries, Venus enters Aries

Sunday, May 24, will be the New Moon in Taurus @ 9 deg.. This begins the Lunar Month of Jyeshtha, named for the nakshatra (lunar sign) that the Full Moon falls in (on June 7). The energy of Jyeshtha is of Seniority and Authority, so dealing with the Authorities, or being Authoritative, is appropriate for the coming lunar cycle. It is also good for going forth and conquering your opponent.
Mercury, still retrograde, backs into Aries Monday, May 25.
Mercury will be with Mars, which entered Aries on Saturday, May 23, for nearly two weeks, until June 5. The combination of Mercury and Mars, especially while Mercury is still retrograde (until May 30) needs to be handled with caution. Mercury retrograde is prone towards misunderstanding, poor logic, delays, and miscommunications. Mars is the planet of Action and Fast Results, now strong in its own sign Aries. The result is putting things into Action even though misinformed, i.e., a liklihood of Mistakes being made. This energy pattern is especially problematic through the coming week while Mercury is still in its retrograde phase; Mercury goes Direct (returns to normal motion) next Saturday, May 30.
Venus still in Pisces gets some relief from Mars, which has moved on to the next sign, Aries, for a week, until Venus also moves into Aries (next Saturday). The significations of Venus improve since it will not be influenced by Mars during the coming week.
Next Saturday, @ 4:30 pm PDT, Venus enters Aries, the first degree of the Sidereal Zodiac:
this is an auspicious time to do Puja in favor of Venus: asking for Venus' help in Romance, Pleasures, Creativity, Social Engagements, Guidance, etc. for the coming year: light incense, candle, etc. and chant one of the Venus mantras, such as "Om, Shum, Sukraya Namaha" 108 times.
Jupiter and Neptune are still conjunct in Aquarius @ 2 deg.: the past week has put the significations of Jupiter, combined with the significations of Neptune, on the front page: Laws and Morals (Jupiter) plus Idealism and Confusion (Neptune)resulting in a conflict over what was, and is, morally correct and lawful when dealing with suspected Terrorists imprisoned by the USA.

Mercury Retrograde Square Jupiter, Mars Enters Aries

By moving backwards amongst the stars, Mercury is coming into a 90 degree aspect with Jupiter (called the Square Aspect in Western Astrology). This mathematical relationship between Mercury and Jupiter creates more Stress on Mercury, the planet of Reasoning and Logic. Mercury meanwhile is already under stress by being in its retrograde phase. Making matters worse, Neptune, planet of Dreams and Confusion, is also in the mix, being conjunct Jupiter and thus simultaneously Square to Mercury as well. Jupiter= Hope and Expansion, Neptune= Imagination and Fantasy, Mercury Retrograde= Backwards Thinking. Thus, we have Unreasonable Hope and Optimism leading to Misunderstandings, Overstatement giving the Wrong Impression, Getting the Facts Incorrect combined with Wishful Thinking, etc... The aspect becomes exact on Wednesday, May 20.
An example of the consequences of this energy pattern appeared in the week's news: President Obama reversed his decision (Mercury= decisions, retrograde: Reverse motion) on release of more torture photos. This decision conflicts (Mercury square aspect to Jupiter-Neptune) with the Utopian Beliefs (Neptune, Fantasy + Jupiter, Beliefs) of the USA public image as Truthful & Humanitarian (Jupiter-Neptune conjunct Moon in the USA chart in Aquarius)
Next Saturday, May 23, at 2:30 pm Pacific Daylight Time, Mars will enter Aries. The first degree of the Zodiac is an Important point in the Heavens. The time of a planet entering the 1st degree of Aries is Auspicious for Puja with respect to the planet's significations. Thus, Ceremony and Prayers asking the Favor of Mars for the coming year re Beginnings, Making Effort, Victory, Brothers and Brotherhood, etc., would be very beneficial next Saturday Afternoon. The mantra for Mars: "Aum, Bhaum Bhaumaye, Namaha" or: "Aum, Sri Angarakaya Namaha" or other Mars mantra, chanted for 108 times, with lighted candle, incense, etc. is appropriate.

Saturn Stationary

Saturn is coming to the end of its retrograde period, which started at the very end of 2008. Saturn appears to be hanging motionless in the Heavens, at 21 degrees of Leo. The stationary condition of a planet is considered to make the planet very powerful, but not necessarily for good effects. Saturn is the planet of the Established Order; its stationary condition makes it very hard to effect any changes. Since Leo is the sign of Kings and Governments, the government will appear to be 'stuck', i.e., incapable of accomplishing anything, this week and next. This problem will be compounded by having Mercury retrograde at the same time (see previous post). Saturn will return to its normal movement through the zodiac on May 17, but since it moves so slowly, Saturn will still appear motionless for several days after it turns direct, extending the "stuck" quality until nearly the end of the month.
Jupiter is now conjunct Neptune in the 1st degree of Aquarius. Jupiter the planet of Prosperity and Optimism combined with Neptune the planet of Dreams and Illusions will continue to give expectations that things are getting better over the next couple of months. In the chart of the USA, the Jupiter-Neptune combination is near the natal Moon, representing The People, and in the 3rd house of Communications and The Media, indicating their participation in promoting the Dream of Return to Prosperity.

Mercury Retrograde, Full Moon in Libra, Saturn Stationary

On Thursday, May 7, Mercury will enter its next retrograde phase (retrograde: the apparent backwards motion of a planet against the backdrop of the stars due to the Earth moving ahead in its orbit relative to the other planet). Mercury starts going backwards at 7 degrees Taurus, and will "back into" Aries for the last week of its retrograde period. Anyone with planets or sensitive points in early Taurus or the last degrees of Aries in their Vedic Astrology Birth Chart is more likely to experience strong effects. Mercury will be retrograde for three weeks, until May 30.
Mercury's significations suffer during its retrograde phase. The planet of communications "going backwards" means that communications get delayed or misunderstood. Therefore it is prudent to check that the message got through, that what was heard was what was intended, etc. Mercury is the planet of Transactions, therefore be especially careful in purchases, count your change, check the addition, etc. Mercury is also the planet of Writing, including Signatures: best not to sign anything and if you do, read the fine print carefully. Best to not start any important endeavors during Mercury Retrograde: the project will be plagued with communication problems.
Mercury Retrograde periods are favorable for paying past bills, finishing up old business, replying to past communications, and editing or re-working existing projects.
The Full Moon will be Friday night, May 8, at 24 degrees of Libra. This marks the culmination of the lunar month of Vaishakha, in the nakshatra (lunar sign) Vishakha: good for Victory Celebrations, making a choice on Which Path to follow, attainment of the Goal.
Next week Saturn wlll be coming to the end of its retrograde period, which started at the very end of 2008. Saturn will appear to hang motionless in the Heavens, at 21 degrees of Leo. The stationary condition of a planet is considered to make the planet very powerful, but not necessarily for good effects. Saturn is the planet of the Established Order; its stationary condition makes it very hard to effect any changes. Since Leo is the sign of Kings and Governments, in the middle of May the government will appear to be 'stuck', i.e., incapable of accomplishing anything. This problem will be compounded by having Mercury retrograde at the same time.
